Watari Ryōta (渡 亮太 Ryōta Watari?) is one of the main characters of the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso series, as well as one of the best friends of both Kousei Arima and Tsubaki Sawabe.
Appearance
Watari has light caramel brown hair and eyes of a corresponding colour. His hair is a medium length and is slightly swept to the right, causing him to look easygoing and approachable. He is known for being good looking, which he uses to his advantage. Watari is the average height for a junior high student his age. He has an average build and is also quite lean. His uniform is to be pictured slightly disheveled, with his tie loose around his neck and his shirt not being tucked in, making girls swoon for him.
Personality
Watari is a bit of a play-boy. He seems to prefer girls who are "cute" seen as he comments in episode 1 that when he sees Kaori for the first time he stated that Tsubaki did a good job on finding a cute looking girl. Furthermore, when introduced to Hiroko Seto, he talks to her immediately, calling her "Onee-sama" and telling Kousei that she's cute.
Ability
Watari is a very skilled at soccer, he is the captain of his team, and is seen easily dribbling past people in a junior high soccer tournament game, but can also be distracted at times; mainly when his friends are around, or just things to get easily distracted by in general.
Etymology
The original meaning of his first name Ryota originally means "cool" or "refreshing". His last name Watari, the original meaning for that word is "over".
Possibly, since the last name is culturally used first when addressing someone by their full name in Japan, he is referred to as Over-Cool or Over-Refreshing, which would be a pun on how popular he is with the ladies.
Background
In his childhood, he was often seen with Tsubaki and Kousei. Unlike Kousei, Watari had a general, nonchalant attitude toward life.
