Episode 22 Review
Okay, after watching this again I can officially confirm it is my favourite episode of all time.
Let's start with the performance. I had chills throughout the entire episode, just non-stop greatness. Maybe Kousei is my favourite protagonist too. When he listed all the important people in his life, it was so so perfectly placed, I don't know if there was a better way to show what all the characters mean to him. Then we he started playing, what was just so good about this performace was that no one ever interuptted him. We didn't get a monologue from himself or a side character or a cheap shot from a judge. We didn't need to know what the audience thought beause we already knew what they felt: we were the audience. Kaori was obviously the high…
Episode 20/21 Review
And there we have Tsubaki reaching the end of her development. They brought up the fact that she's like a tough gorrilla a bunch of times. She is literally the grandmaster tomboy so no one can really see her as a girl and really, she's dug her own grave here. But to be honest I'm not exactly sure what else she could've done. If that's who you are, you can't really change yourself. I honestly do not thing she's wrong to want something from Kousei here. She's been supporting him since I don't even know when and it's just not human to be completely unconditional. And when Kousei thought it was a joke or something, I just hit my head against the table in 'bruh'. At least she now fully knows who she is and she's got nothing to hide. Her time is…
Episode 18/19 Review
Missed a day again
Omg was just watching the opening and realized in that playing scene at the end that it actually changes subtly from day to night as the series goes on. Great job animators, great job.
Anyways, I can say for a fact that this was definitely was one of the best episodes of the series. When Kousei played with Nagi, I don't even know music, but could clearly tell what each of their playing sounded like which was just great, and watari was a good man when he got the audio recording going. So many moments collided here, when Kousei was playing, he was just thinking about playing for Kaori and he even wanted the sound to go away, great play. Nagi meanwhile was learning the truth behind Kousei and was just making a speech to her b…
Episode 17 Review
Will start off with Hiroko this time. She's just pulled her redemption arc. When Nagi was there lying in the corner of the room I think everyone in the audience immediately thought of Kousei, and so did Hiroko. I think the reason she dealt with it so well this time is because she was probably thinking what she would've said to Kousei for a long time after it happened. Her partner in crime, Koharu was just a cuteness overdose throughout the entire episode.
Nagi was great this time. I think she just really had a point to prove after what'd been said about her. She wanted to prove to people that she did actually live up to the hype. I think everyone's felt that at one stage. When I was at school, I did well in cross-country and I remember ever…
Episode 16 Review
Hmph, what Kaori is doing now is really interesting. I respect what she was trying to do in her final moments: just enjoy life while you've got it and try to make others better before leaving. Kaori going shopping with Kousei I think was both for herself and Kousei. She just wanted to enjoy herself and try to not worry Kousei. She never wanted to trouble anyone with what she was going going through. Commednable.
Later on, when she does start finding herself shouting at Kouse, it really reminds me of Saki. The fact that she is doing everything in her power to help him out and sometimes when you know your time is running out, things like taking it out in the wrong way just happen. I can't imagine what Kousei is thinking. 'Please not again, pl…
Episode 15 Review
Okay, I promise this will be the last time I talk about Tsubaki for a while.
At this moment, Tsubaki has fully come to the realisation that she has feelings for Kousei and has just accepted them. When Saito broke up with her, odds on that was a lie, and you can feel how guilty she feels. Its really sad that she didn't even know how she was treating that guy for a long time. It was actually a classy move by that guy, and you could tell it wasn't going to work. However, I don't think he was lying when he said 'we need to be with our opposites'. Straight facts. Forgot to say that the mudballs are indeed 10/10 symbolism.
Nagi falls from a tree. Kousei asks what a pianist is doing up a tree, but really, what is anyone?
Kousei is just making up exc…
Episode 14 Review
As a Tsubaki fan, this is one of my favourite episodes of the series.
Hmm, where to begin. I'll go chronologically. As I said, in the last one, Tsubaki is under the impression that Kousei is her kid brother, when really, he's grown since the start and she just can't accept it. Props to Nao for trying to help her out though. If Kaori had stayed with us by the end of the season, I'm not sure where she'd be. Nao is acting like a true friend and trying to tell her that you've gotta accept that you do like him, or you're gonna get caught in the friendzone. Oof. I thik the great tragedy is that its kind of like she was friendzoning Kousei, when, in reality she was the one being friendzoned. That, as well as (revelaed an ep or so later) that she l…
Episode 13 Review
Just want to focus in on two characters this episode.
I really liked how they show that there are pretty much no people that are 100% bad. Saki I think is a little misunderstood. When people think of child-beaters they just think of single drunk mother or fathers, and in some cases, that is true, but not always. I first want to say that hitting your child is not acceptable under any circumstances, and this is is no way trying to justify it. I do know, people (names redacted) who have been hit by their parents, but they are not bad people, and with Saki, there was a lot going on too. She was really stressed about the future and just wanted her child to have a better life. And, at the end of the day, a mother's a mother. I don't think many pe…
Episode 12 Review
Firstly, I just want to point out the great symbolism in the OP and ED. The birds in the air, and then feathers falling (Kaori) was heartbreaking and you see the ED and Kaori isn't actually falling downwards, she's going upwards.
Now, finally, I get to talk about one of my favourite lines ever. 'Hey, did you get taller? Oh, I see. Its because you're not looking down anymore' - Kaori Miyazono. That hits hard. It really shows just how much Kousei's grown as a person and this particular one is about his confidence (I think), which just makes it extra special. Its not some waffle about human equality or anything like that, its just a very human line. Those two realy are great together. It might've been an extra touch they added to have Kousei l…
Episode 11 Review
First of all, want to just say how quickly these episodes have gone by. Halfway through already!? Nooo, no more Hikaru Nara or Kirameki.
We got Hiroko and Koharu. Hiroko is just epic. You can tell she feels regret but knows that it would be wrong to stop him now, and Koharu, the cutest character imaginable. Throughout the first half, I couldn't stop smiling. Its like 'yo Kousei is a new person now' or something like that. The train scene was great - we're all losers at the end of the day. Meanwhile the firefly scene at the end killed me. I'm so sorry.
Tsubaki's face when Watari said that Kousei and Kaori were the best duo ever was an F.
Episode 10 Review
The best thing about this show is that everytime Kousei goes on that stage, something changes about him. For me, this one wasn't just that he cut his strings from his mother, I actually think this was the episode time started moving again for him.
Also, I'm not a musician so I can't do music very well but I never knew the same piece could sound so different. In the final third, I just closed my eyes and listened to it. The music is incredible. Well, its freedom as they said.
Episode 7/8/9
Couldn't do it last 2 days so another 3 in 1
The story about Chelsea and what happened to her remains one of my favourite things about this. Its feels very sombre but not overdramatized and still very real. Smug Tsubaki when Kousei is hyped up was funny too. The hand touching scene was also great. You tell exactly what Kousei was feeling there.
Ah, an episode about Emi. She's definitely one of the better side characters. The piece she was playing geniunely slapped. It felt so... Emi. The colour filter was great and she's definitely got a tsundere thing going on. Great ep.
Watching it again, I'm actually suprised Kousei managed to stay alive. Like wow, I'm sure a few people wouldv'e commited suicide if they were in his position. I guess thats …
Episode 6 Review
Lots of great symbolism in this one, the dust on the piano and piggyback was great.
Also, am wondering how Kousei couldn't read Kaori by then lmao. Guess he can't read emotions lol...
Episode 3/4/5 Review
Didn't have time the past two days so doing a three in one today
It was a very human and heartfelt story, this episode. There was Kaori who wanted to never be forgotten and live on in the hearts of others and Kousei who was stuck in time and had to get back on track with his life - and the people around him were helping him do so.
Also that 'two people on a bike is forbidden by law' line at the end got me laughing.
Oh man, I never wanted that episode to end. Everything was amazing - the quotes, the music, the flashbacks, importance and all. Absolute 10/10 episode. They came back to give a performance that will never be forgotten by the audience and woah, I'll never either. I also liked Tsubaki's realization that she was becoming sidelined as …
Episode 2 Review
Just finished episode 2. Definitely one of my favourites. I love this one because its full of small details. Things like Kousei's hand trying to play the piano for the guy strggling, egging him on or Kaori's hand shaking as its slightly nervous to see Kousei's reaction to his performance, things like that. Watari's line about how the people you fall in love with are usually already in love because their eyes are sparkling in yours hits close to home.
Also remember this episode from the TwoSetViolin parody lol.
Episode 1 Review
I decided to rewatch the series starting on the 28th, and an episode a day so that the last episode ends on February 18th, which is Kaori's...
Anyways, this was a very cute first episode. From memory, I think it was the weakest of the series but still had good moments. The dialogue between Tsubaki and Kousei was great and the score never dissapointed. It was a very funny episode as well, before all the darkness, and moments where Kaori went from intimidating to nice and vice versa were properly laugh out loud.
Thats about it for this episode, 21 more to go.
